2021 Renovation Trends
Will Matchett • Nov 23, 2021

As 2020 is all but a horrid memory now, there is new research uncovering the renovation trends that took shape across Australia over the course of the pandemic and are continuing through to 2021. The pandemic itself caused a lot of industries to either shut down completely or work from home, luckily the building industry was deemed essential and was allowed to continue under strict new safety protocols. In order to keep the building industry afloat during this time, the Federal Government granted Australians a $25,000 grant to boost the demand in construction and to keep workers employed until the 31st of December 2020, which has now been extended to the 14th of April 2021.

This means that the grant has allowed many homeowners and families to build their dream homes, extend or finally be able to do their desired renovations. Although there has been challenges such as; the domino effect of material delays and shortages that have seen projects be pushed back for a consequential period of time, the grant has helped the building industry keep running and we are busier than ever helping home owners build their dreams!

The industry trends that have erupted because of the pandemic are becoming more popular than ever to ensure that people are able to live and work in their homes comfortably and efficiently if the economical downturn and lockdowns continue.

Bring the Outside In

By opening up your home and creating a comfortable outdoor living space that is an extension of the indoors will allow natural flow with features like large sliding or bi-fold doors. Dress the space with outdoor heating, drop down blinds and/or cosy couches to extend the feel of relaxation throughout your home. Don’t forget to spruce the area with beautiful plants, herbs and vegetables. Vegetation at home can aid in healthier air and a trustworthy supply of your own greens.

Storage

By adding some smart storage (think loft-style, floor to ceiling) can allow for the free movement of people around your home and de-clutter the entire space. The only way to achieve a clean and organised space is to tuck away items not of everyday use and utilise some stylish full-length cabinets and shutters to conceal your items making them easily accessible but hidden from plain sight.

Work from Home Sanctuaries

With Covid-19 seeing a lot of the population being asked to work from home, it was realised that an adequate work space is definitely needed in a home, no matter what your profession. Compact and adaptable spaces designed within the bedroom or study area with a comfortable seat, ample storage options and perfect lighting meant for more active and productive work.

Energy Efficiency

Incorporating green solutions into the home such as: solar panels, rainwater tanks, opening up breeze ways and insulating walls/floors. These all help to reduce the overall running costs of a home and improve the energy efficiency and making a positive contribution to the environment.
