Design & Construct is a project delivery system that generally uses a single entity known as a “design-builder”. Rather than engaging an architect or building designer first and then approaching a builder with pre-designed house plans, design + construct means the entire build is overseen by one party. However at Matchett Construction, we pride ourselves on our early engagement with Architectural Building Designers, Professional Consultants and Interior Designers. This allows you to experience the best of both worlds, where you benefit from seamlessly bringing all elements of the design together to save on time and money, without compromising quality.

We constantly review the design as it progresses, engaging a fresh set of eyes from all perspectives to ensure that it aligns with your brief and budget and identify any buildability improvements early.


ADVANTAGES OF DESIGN & CONSTRUCT


  1. Without a doubt the biggest issue with the 'traditional' process of engaging an Architect first and Builder second is that your budget is not thought about until the design is put in front of the builder. By this stage, you have not only invested large sums of money, but also time and emotion in developing a design only to find out you can’t proceed with the build as it is well in excess of your budget. With our collaborative process we provide oversite as the design develops to ensure it reflects the budget and practicality. Given that we are specialist in the cost to build, this input is invaluable as the design develops, to avoid the heartache of unaffordable builds and time wasting.
  2. Identify any potential risks whilst the design develops that may jeopardise the potential approvals. This allows you to make informed judgements and assess for yourself if there are any questionable details that may or may not be rejected well in advance of lodging for any approvals.
  3. There is less room for error with upfront costing. With our involvement throughout the design and approvals process, we reduce the potential for variations during construction. With the traditional method of design, quote, build, there tends to be no collaboration, where each stage is completed before involving the next party. It is only after construction has begun that it becomes clear the design has errors, or is missing important elements, that you are then required to pay extra to remedy these issues. As the design develops, we constantly review it and address any foreseeable issues that would adversely affect a seamless construction process

Look for potential cost savings in the build by identifying possible design alternatives or substituting ‘like for like’ products or outcomes on what has been proposed without compromising on quality or your vision.
